Time past and time present
Allow but a little consciousness
To be conscious is not to be in time
But only in time can the moment in the rose garden
The moment in the arbour where the rain beat
The moment in the draughty church at smokefall
Be remembered, involved with past and future
Only through time, time is conquered.
On the drives to and from school I’m memorizing Eliot’s Burnt Norton. It is doing wacky things to my brain (in a good sort of upside down, right side up sort of way). Right now I think that the ‘moment’ is human. Sometimes (like Socrates?) it seems like it’d be nice to be free of the body, free of time … but we cannot (and should not) be rid of it. To be free of time is to be a god. To be in time, affected by time, to grow old is to be human (at least for now).
Living in the moment– actually feeling and experiencing time is vital to being alive.
More on this later. I’m sleepy.
