Having been sick this whole week, I’ve been consuming my share of healthful draughts, my top four being water, ginger lemon tea, green tea, and magic potion.
I first was introduced to magic potion a year ago, when CH and I arrived at his grandmother’s home to celebrate Christmas with his family, a scant week before we got married. We were both experiencing a slight “tickle” in the throat, the herald of a sickness for which neither of us had time. So, CH’s sister went rummaging in the cupboards and simmered together a mixture she called “magic potion.” It does the trick. Although it’s most effective at the early warnings of a cold, it’s soothing and certainly does no harm during the full blown warfare either. Here’s the recipe, in true potion fashion.
Peel and chop
the ginger fresh,
in good water drop
and simmer away.
Sliver the garlic
and place in a cup.
Honey tempers the kick
for the weak of heart.
Juice of a lemon,
cayenne pepper,
put it all together:
healing will occur.
