Stephen and I went on a date yesterday. We sat at the counter at Ruby’s and drank chocolate shakes and munched on french fries (a good after school snack). We discussed the the complicated world of biography projects (“I’m thinkin’ I’ll do Mr. Hersey, then maybe I can get Mom to buy some [...]

You are the bread and the knife,
The crystal goblet and the wine…
—Jacques Crickillon
You are the bread and the knife,
the crystal goblet and the wine.
You are the dew on the morning grass
and the burning wheel of the sun.
You are the white apron of the baker,
and the marsh birds suddenly in flight.
However, you are not the [...]

I almost always have the feeling present within me that I should be reading more of it, drinking more of it, committing more of it to memory– and that most of the time it would probably be a better use of my time than whatever it is that I am doing (with the exception of [...]
Thus Spake Zarathustra

My past burst its tomb, many pains buried alike woke up: fully slept had they merely, concealed in corpse-clothes.
One must learn to love oneself–thus do I teach–with a wholesome and healthy love; that one may endure to be with oneself, and not go roving about.
Crazy Love

There are sometimes when I am simply and fully convinced that I am crazy. This morning was one of these moments. My alarm went off at 5:45am. Yes. 5:45am on a Saturday morning. It was dark and cold, and I’d really only had a long nap after playing Settlers for hours last night. Cursing my [...]
An expected holiday (part two)

1. Made coffee & breakfast.
2. Sat on the floor of the bathroom and talked to my roommate while she did her hair and makeup.
3. Did some paperwork.
4. Listened to Belle & Sebastian’s Tigermilk
5. Read The Wind in the Door (L’Engle) for several hours in a garden. Then read Nietzsche. Then let these two [...]
And what does one do with an unexpected holiday?

Curl up with old plays and poetry, write some letters, do some laundry, clean up the room while dancing to Belle & Sebastian. Later let’s watch a movie and sip hot cider, okay? And maybe even watch the moon rise.

In class last night we discussed [what I consider to be] the most beautiful and poetic passage in all of Plato’s dialogues. He describes the procession of the immortal souls as they fly through the heavens, gazing on those things which are true, beautiful and real. He mourns the human souls whose wings [...]
Here’s hoping …

… that children will not be inside for recess/lunch breaks today.
*very long sigh*
Edit– Children are very much inside, and eager to discuss the fires and growing smoke clouds all day.

Southern California Fires

Please keep Southern California in your prayers.
Today my best friend in San Diego was evacuated from her home, and my parents are preparing to do the same.
Pray that the winds die down. Heck–pray for rain!
Pray for sustained strength and increased resources for the fire fighters.
Pray for the welfare, safety and comfort of the evacuees.
